I read this book in Japanese. This is a translation I wrote in Japanese just after I read the Japanese edition.

It’s a valuable Reportage that describes the author’s stay in a small village of Wa State in the northern part of Myanmar, an experience of poppy cultivation and being addicted to opium. I think it’s very hard to get a permit to stay in the village, but the author did with his rich network of contacts and enthusiasm. In the village, there are not a kind of mafia people but are good ordinary people.

His observation in daily life is very interesting. I understand that poppy cultivation. Also, I learned a lot about people and standing in Wa state.
Cultivation of poppy is the only way for the people. We can not say something different.

The current situation of Myanmar is very different. I was paying no attention to news about Myanmar, but I will do.
